Sources of good content

These are the primary ezines I read- none are “subscription” (like Artforum for example) but all have email lists and you can give financial support to any of them! If you are subscribed to this blog, the majority of artists that I mention I discover (or discover more about) on these platforms.

You can also sign up for Artsy– their site will allow you to follow artists and galleries and they often publish “people to watch” lists.

There are also some good blogs you can follow:

And these Instagram feeds are pretty good sources of abstract painting, too:

Helene Herzbrun and Grace Hartigan

#TBT

Hyperallergic paired these two recently, underscoring that there were contributions to the canon outside of the group known as the Ninth Street Women and the Washington school of color. I wasn’t familiar with Grace’s (RIP) work from the early ’70s. The images link to Pinterest “galleries.”

Louise P. Sloan and Rusty Shackleford

I think it’s interesting to post two artists side by side some time- in this case because they use a similar approach to mark making with different results.

Found Louise’s Instagram profile via a hashtag and she has of course has a site.

Rusty is in both places, too.
