Pat Passlof and Milton Resnick

While both canon icons are deceased, a Two Coats article on a posthumous show at their foundation spurred me to create a Pinterest for Pat, only to find that their algorithms also thought it a sensible pairing with Milton.

To whom is below attributable? Find out!

Albert Oehlen

Albert has a new show up at Serpentine that’s an interpretation of the Rothko Chapel. The gallery says “Albert understand the strategies of surrealism as a kind of toolbox.” Though not strictly abstraction, I think of the automatism of the surrealists as a necessary precursor to fully non-objective painting (e.g., without Gorky, there is no Lee Krasner)

Mark Rothko

This is fun.

Rothko has a place in my practice of note- my decision to step away from grad school was made while writing a paper for a seminar on self-portraiture for which I was writing about abstract expressionism as a form of self portraiture featuring Rothko as exemplar. I made a gallery on Pinterest at some point, too.
