Terrell James

Terrell James is an abstract painter who exhibits nationally and internationally. She produces both intimate canvasses and vigorous mural-scale works in oil. James’ works on paper include drawings, etchings, lithographs, monoprints, and monotypes. Her paintings are interpretations of landscapes, internal and external. James has continuously sought unfamiliar environments in which to paint, producing works in place that attend to an area’s specific local light, color, tone, and history, and allowing the disruption and new material to change ongoing work in her home studio in Houston.

Manoela Medeiros

is a recent Fountainhead artist in residence. In her practice, Medeiros articulates an approach to painting that transcends the specificities of the medium, making use of sculpture, performance, and installation work. Pursuing a hybrid framework for the pictorial, Medeiros questions artistic media by going beyond their conventional formats, producing paintings and in situ installations that explore the relationships between space, time, and the corporeality of art and of the viewer.

Ellen Gallagher

shows with Hauser & Wirth. Her painting process involves undoing and reforming trains of thought often over long periods of time and across linked bodies of works. Over a highly multifaceted career, Gallagher’s work has been united by what she calls a ‘jitter,’ an intellectual approach in which aesthetic possibilities are shook loose from seismic cracks beneath the surface of cultural entities normally thought to be unshakable and impermeable.
