I would definitely say there’s a couple of things I was hoping to revisit with this piece, one of which is perhaps the main issue that I think about. To reduce it, the question is whether to emphasize an all-over quality by limiting the applications I use and hewing towards a same-ness across the cubes… OR, to punch things up in the opposite direction and head towards a chaotic diffusion of applications to keep the eye moving “all over.” Part way in, this is feeling like a nice hybrid, the result of allowing myself to be very intuitive in front of the canvas, and letting the pallet and tools be the limiting factor.

I was also really hoping to get a lushness of surface with this one that is akin to the luminosity that’s supposedly only possible with oils. I think I’m going to have to settle for having some “surfaces” be shiny…
