(Last update 11/26)

This canvas is about 40″ square. I started drawing with watercolor pencil on raw canvas, as well as some watercolor marker which I knew from experience would mix with gesso and glazes and bleed through several layers of paint. Then, I applied layers of tinted gesso, more pencil and glaze (acrylic medium with some color mixed in). I worked with knives to apply the first layers  of paint, then moved to brushes to paint inside the squares. I used a yardstick as a brace at times to paint gridlines with a brush. Once underway, I sometimes go back in and tape off an area and then apply a thick, tinted glaze to move that area more towards a specific color.
